Along the Southern shore of the Firth of Forth stretching down towards the North Sea are the three counties called The Lothians. Midlothian surrounds Edinburgh while West and East Lothian lie either side of Mid Lothian. Whitburn is in West Lothian (click on the thumbnail to see a large version of the map). The town is very well served by the M8 motorway from Edinburgh (come off Junction 4) and Glasgow (come off Junction 5 - not on map but it is just slightly to the west of the G in Greenrigg). Edinburgh is only 25 minutes away by train on the Bathgate - Edinburgh Sprinter line and there is a station in Fauldhouse on the southern Glasgow - Edinburgh rail line. As you can see Whitburn makes a great central base for visiting surrounding areas such as Livingston (the heart of Silicon Glen), the market town of Lanark to the south and historic Linlithgow, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scot to the north. The centre of Glasgow is only about 30 minutes away by car and Scotland's largest city acts as the gateway to the scenic beauty of the West
